To pose or not to pose?

When shoot portraits, do you pose your subjects or not? I intend to give my subjects as little direction as possible. I'd like to capture their nature character.

Sometimes I just let my subjects do their thing and I capture the candid shots.

Sometimes I ask my subjects questions and capture their emotion from hearts.

Bridal Shower

Five hours photographing of bridal shower. Gallery live the same day for client proofing. I think I did a pretty good job.

Birthday party

I photographed a birthday party days ago. It's their mom's 60 year birthday of a Thai family.

The party is at Wellesley Community Centre. Here is the dining hall.

They let the mom hold a few eggs. Family members tie string on her wrists.

Family members tie string to each other's wrist. I don't understand their language. Apparently this means blessing.

Kids

This pretty girl decided to give her mom a special gift for mom's birthday. She contacted me the day before her mom's birthday, if I could shoot a portrait of her and her brother as her mom's gift. The only time I have was around 8 pm, after my son's graduation ceremony. I checked the weather and decided to do some outdoor portrait for her. She picked the Peter Russell Rock Garden on UW campas.

Here are a few photos. She, her brother and her mom all loved this special gift.
